[Class 1 (i)] [Also in Group IV] Compounds having the formula wherein Ar is an aromatic nucleus and X is an aliphatic or alicyclic group containing more than five carbon atoms are treated with sulphonating agents to give products which in the form of salts are stated to have dispersing properties. In examples : ms-octodecyl-p-methyldesoxybenzoin and ms-hexadecyldesoxybenzoin are sulphonated.
