Abstract
533,277. Clutches. MAGNAGHI, E. Oct. 26, 1939, No. 28770. [Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] The cylindrical body 5 of a pump comprising pistons 6 reciprocating in cylinders in the body 5 under the action of a swash-plate 10 is driven by a rotary shaft 1 formed with a frictional conical bell 4 into contact with which a conical part 17 of the body 5 can be brought by means of a cam 21 on a lever 20 which can displace a plunger 18 to the left against the action of a spring 19 and thus permit the body 5 to move to the left under the action of springs 11 which are normally overcome by the action of the spring 19. On release of the lever 20 the pressure of the fluid acts to maintain the clutch elements 4, 11 in engagement. The liquid enters via a pipe 12 and suction conduit 13 and is urged into the pressure conduit 14 connected by a non- return valve 16 to the outlet pipe 15. In the position shown a groove 24 in the rod 18 connects the suction and outlet sides of the pumps so that the clutch elements do not engage. The outlet 22 is closed by the solid part of rod 18 when this rod is moved to the left.
