[Class 138 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIV] In machines, such as wringers and the like, wherein material is fed between rolls under resilient pressure and mounted respectively in a body 1 and in a housing 6 which is secured by a pin &c. 5 at one side of the rolls 2, 7 to a spring pressed spindle 3 and is held down at the other side of the roller by a pair of links 8, 9 jointed together at their lower ends and to the body and housing respectively at their upper ends, the jointed end of the links is held by latching means to retain the pressure on the rolls and the latch may be released by either a push or pull on guard rails 11, 12 provided at opposite sides of the rolls thereby permitting the jointed links to open out and release the pressure on the rolls. The latch comprises a plate 18 mounted by a pivot 19 on the body and carrying pins G, H engaging slots J, K in a link 15, a latching roll 21 engaging, a nose 22 on the link 8 and a peg 20 engaging a slot in the body and biassed by a spring 25. The link 15 is pivoted to arms carrying the guard rails, such arms being pivoted to the body at 13, 14, and is maintained in normal position by a spring 26. Displacement of either guard rail by either a pull or a push displaces the link 15 to rock the plate so that the roll 21 rides over the nose 22 and releases the links 8, 9 to permit the housing to lift. A knob 24 at the joints of the links 8, 9 is operated to return the links to latched position past the nose 22. Specification 468,446 is referred to.
