531,144. Making tubes. WELLMAN SEAVER ROLLER MILL CO., Ltd., and SMITH, S. July 13, 1939, No. 20401. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)]. Rolling; cupping.-In the manufacture of tubes on the push bench to avoid trouble due to scale a pass, either of dies or rolls or both, is employed having two proximate operative surfaces one behind the other, the diameter of the pass being reduced in the direction of travel and the space 6 between the dies being supplied with inert gas or with a small quantity of oil or pulverized coal. As applied to dies only the forward die 3 removes the scab and the die 4 effects reduction. Specification 321,529, [Class 83 (iv)], is referred to.
