Abstract

528,184. Dry-cleaning apparatus. GENT, L. E., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. March 23, 1939, No. 9232. [Class 91] In degreasing metal or like articles by liquid solvent the articles are placed in an openbottomed container 19 provided with baffles e.g., 11, 12, 13 so disposed as to pass solvent but retain solids sinking in the solvent in which the container is immersed. The container may extend above the solvent level if perforated at or about that level. As shown, the baffles 11-13 are lined with removable gauzes 20, the articles are supported on a grating 15, openings at the solvent level are covered by gauzes 14, and the container is placed in the first cleaning compartment 4 of a tank 1 divided by overflow partitions 18 into cleaning chambers 2-4 and a vaporizing chamber 5 : solvent flows in succession through chambers 2, 3, 4, and 5, chambers 2-5 are fitted with steam coils 6, chambers 3-5 with baffles 17, chambers 2, 3 with gratings 7 to support the articles after cleaning in chamber 4 ; the tank is provided with cooling coils 8, solvent condensing thereon flowing into a trough 9 and by a pipe 10 to the cleaner tank 2. In modifications (1) The gauze linings 20 are replaced by gauze frames sliding in slots in the base of each trough formed by the baffles 11-13. (2) The baffles are formed of sheet metal horizontal members connected by vertical members of gauze. Specification 493,473 is referred to.
