In a degreasing'plant comprising a separating tank having a plurality of vertical baffle plates forming a sinuous passage for the removal of scum, a collecting channel is provided in the separating tank to receive grease and degreasing liquid from the degreasing tank, the channel having an outlet into the separating tank. As shown, a degreasing plant, shown in plan view, comprises a degreasing tank 8 from which liquid passes into a channel-shaped cover 20 which opens into the tank 8 along its whole length and discharges liquid from an opening in its lower wall extending from the rear wall of a separating tank 11 as far as the baffle plate 14. Further baffles 15 and 16 allow scum to separate out and be carried over a weir into the outlet channel 24, while the cleaning liquid is recirculated to the tank 8 by a pump through a pipe 12. An electric heater 26 is provided in the degreasing tank, and rinse tanks 9 and 10 are provided for cleaned articles.
