Abstract
533,389. Washing gases. KEITH, BLACKMAN, Ltd., and WOODLEY, D. S. Oct. 24, 1939, No. 28531. [Class 55 (ii)] Gas is freed from dust by passage down a tube 2 to impinge on the surface of a liquid bath and to entrain spray in passing over an upwardly diverging annular baffle 5 partly immersed in the water; the gas is then projected against a mushroom-shaped hood member 4 with an overhanging rim above the water deflecting the gas again on to the water, whence the gas rises through perforated plates 12 to an outlet 3. The hood is attached to the tube 2 and both the latter and the baffle member may be internally partitioned at 10 to form two separate ducts with independent supplies of gas, e.g. from a grinding wheel. Several hoods and baffles may be placed in one tank 7, which has inspection windows 8, a pressure-release door, an overflow or sight level pipe 13, an automatic float-controlled level regulator, a cleaning door 16 and a sludge drain lock 14.
