Abstract

912,433. Treating sewage. HARTLEYS (STOKE-ON-TRENT) Ltd. Sept. 26, 1961 [Sept. 27, 1960], No. 33084/60. Class 111. Gas, such as methane, which collects in the top of sludge digestion tank 10 is boosted in pressure by a compressor unit (not shown) and recirculated via forked pipe 22 into tube 27. This gas causes an upsurge of liquid sludge through tube 27 and impinges on the underside of the scum blanket which is below water level 13. The gas may be fed successively to a number of clip pipes 27 so as to give a vigorous stirring action and the distribution may be by means of the valve disclosed in Specification 864,470.
