Abstract

<PICT:1037843/C1/1> <PICT:1037843/C1/2> A unitary activated sludge installation comprises four tanks formed by radial partitions 13 and 15. Controlled oxidation and chlorination can be made from operating rooms 9 and 10. Aeration tanks 3, 4 and 5 lead to settling tank 6 via stilling tank 61 while activated sludge is supplied from tank 6 by pipe 211. Raw water entering by pipe 1 passes via slots 14 through the aeration tanks, through openings 15 or 25 in to the upper part of the stilling chamber. Part of the sludge is flushed back into tank 5 but the rest under quiescent conditions enters settling tank 6 for overflow of purified water to outlet 2. A multistage installation is described in relation to Figures 4 and 5 (not shown).
