Abstract
348,794. Swimming baths; gravity. separation apparatus. CUNLIFFE, A., 32, Vernon Street, Farnworth, near Bolton. March 26, 1930, Nos. 9589/30 and 1379/31. [Classes 26 and 46.] A device for removing scum from the surface of swimming baths or the like comprises a pipe or conduit of relatively large diameter having its lower end communicating with the outlet passage and draw-off pump of the bath at its upper end slightly below the normal level of the water. As shown in Fig. 5, a stand pipe comprises two parts a, a<1> which telescope together, the upper part a<1> being fitted with a cone a2 and having lateral perforations a<3> within the cone. A filter tray c may rest on the upper edge, and the tray or the part a<1> may be provided with a hinged lid. The part a may have an enlarged base b with perforations b<1>, the base resting on a rubber ring g which surrounds the outlet passage. Alternatively, the base b may be cemented to or let into the floor of the bath. A second filter tray may be provided at the upper end of the part b. A rack and pinion may be provided for adjusting and fixing the relative position of the parts a, a<1>. It is stated that the equivalent of the stand pipe may be produced in brickwork, taking, for example, the form of a conduit behind the bath wall. As shown in Fig. 7, the device is provided with means for removing sediment from the floor of the bath. The part a is provided with a lateral inlet h communicating with a cone i which opens downwardly over a conical sieve or filter j. The inlet h is connected by a flexible pipe k with a suction nozzle l which is moved over the floor of the bath by means of a long handle m.
