Abstract

A skimmer for removing debris from the surface of a pond comprises a circular bowl with an open throat area to let water in, a short length of pipework acting as an outlet, a removable perforated basket and a top cover which fits over the rim of the bowl. The skimmer is attached to pipework passing through the pond wall, and powered by a pump or air diffuser or by gravity. The skimmer can be adjusted up or down by using different pipe fittings, and also rotated so that the open throat faces in any desired direction. Water withdrawn by the skimmer is returned to the pond via a waterfall, venturi or filter.

DESCRIPTION.
This invention relates to a water surface skimmer suitable for any type of pond and is positioned in the pond water fitting to an in pond pipe.
At present the only other skimmer sometimes used in a pond is the one specifically designed for a swimming pool. This has to be built into the pond brickwork during construction and it's position is fixed permanently.
My invention is positioned in the pond water and is attached to any pipework passing through the pond wall.
It can be powered by either a pump, air diffliser, or gravity fed- It comprises of a short length of pipework attached to a circular bowl having an open "throaC area to allow vater in. It has a removable perforated basket for cleaning and a top cover which fits over the rim of the bowl. (See Fig. 1).
When fitted the unit "throat" can be turned 360 2 to match the water flow pattern of any pond and therefore skim the water surface more efficiently.
When fitted the unit can be adjusted up and down to accommodate fluctuating water levels by using recommended pipe fittings.

Claims (1)

  1. CLAIMS.
    The M.S. unit will skim the water surface collecting surface debris i.e. leaves, blanketweed, excess food and D.O.C. (surface foam bubbles).
    When attached to a pump (See Fig. 2) it can be used to supply water for a variety of uses i.e.
    - a waterfall - direct return to aid water circulation - venturi return for additional oxygenation and water circulation - to a filter system Maintenance consists of taking off the lid, removing the inner basket and clearing any debris usually with a hosepipe.
