Abstract
528,086. Aircraft structures. KLEMM, H. April 27, 1939, No. 12611. Convention date, April 29, 1938. [Class 4] An aircraft body or wing &c comprises outer metal sheets secured to an inner wooden layer, the compound sheet being secured to internal wooden frames or stringers solely by glueing. In the form shown, the outer skin of a fuselage consists of longitudinal sheet metal strips 1 with layers of wood 2, e.g. 0.3 to 0.5 mm. in thickness, glued to their inner faces, the strips being butt-jointed together and the seams being covered by sheet metal strips 3 glued to wood layers 4 in turn glued to the layers 2. Frame members 5 of angle cross-sections are riveted to metal strips 6 lined with wood 7 glued to the inner skin 2. A bulkhead 9 with an integral or separately formed flange 10 is similarly covered with a wood layer glued to the inner skin 2 of the shell.
