528,052. Making heat-exchangers. HOOVER, Ltd. April 20, 1939, No. 11875. Convention date, April 25, 1938. [Class 83 (ii)] [Also in Group XIII] In manufacturing a finned pipe heat exchanger, sheet metal fins B, Fig. 1, are applied to the pipe A laterally from opposite sides and have slots of such depth that fins on opposite sides of the pipe overlap. A semi-cylindrical flange B, Fig. 3, formed in making the slots D, fits around the pipe A, whilst a tongue B 2 fits into the slot D of the adjacent fin. The fins are assembled on the heat exchangers by means of a supporting jig comprising supporting plates H, J, Fig. 5, hinged at K and having slots H<SP>1</SP> and J<SP>1</SP> to receive the fins. Light springs may be provided in the slots to support the fins.
