Abstract
532,968. Tubular heat exchangers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Sept. 1, 1939, No. 25073. Convention date, Sept. 1, 1938. [Class 64 (iii)] A resilient packing element is arranged between adjacent fins on heat transfer surfaces in order to prevent vibration in the tube plate openings. The packing 20, Fig. 2, is coiled between spiral fins 17, and may be secured in position by bending the outer edge 21 of a fin. In a modification, the packing is a rubber spiral 22, Fig. 4, tapered to provide a greater width at the outer edge 24 than at the inner edge 25 ; or a split tubular bushing with a spiral groove on the inner side may be used.
