Abstract

527,806. Commutator switching arrangements. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. April 20, 1939, No. 11955. Convention date, April 23, 1938. [Class 38 (ii)] A commutator switching arrangement for deriving A.C. from D.C. comprising a vibratory switch and transformer has a condenser and resistance of particular values connected in series across the switch contacts. The operating coil 13, Fig. 1, is also connected across the switch contact 11 through a resistance 15. A high-frequency filter arrangement comprising a resistance 18 and condenser 19 is associated with the switch contacts. This arrangement enables the A.C. apparatus 2 with its associated transformer 3 to be converted to D.C. use by switching involving one transformer lead only. The transformer 3 is preferably so dimensioned that it becomes periodically highly saturated on D.C. working so that when the switch is open and the decaying magnetic field charges the condenser 16 through resistances 17 it causes a reversed E.M.F. in the primary of the transformer at least equal to the applied D.C. voltage. In order to reduce the excitation current of the operating coil 13, a condenser 14 is connected in parallel with it, the value of the condenser being such that the oscillatory circuit thus formed corresponds to the natural frequency of the vibrating member 10.
