Abstract

527,676. Two-part couplings. HAGGAR, R. W. April 19, 1939, No. 11759. Convention date, May 23, 1938. [Class 38 (i)] In order to facilitate the correct insertion of a plug member 7 in a wall socket 2 coacting parts are formed on the plug and socket to form when in engagement a hinge about which the plug member turns. A cross-rod 6 of circular section is provided on the plug member 7 to fit into a groove 3 on the socket member into which it is guided by convergent lateral guide ribs 4. In the form shown the ribs 4 are formed on the wall plate 5 and the groove 3 in the member 2 but the groove 3 may be formed by outward bending of the edge of the plate 5, or by moulding a groove in a thickened part of the plate. Alternatively the ends of the rod 6 may enter slots in the guide ribs 4 that replace the groove 3. The contact blades 8 are preferably curved but an ordinary plug member may be adapted to coact with the improved socket by attaching thereto a cross-rod 6 mounted on a band clip to encircle the plug member.
