Abstract

527,313. Cathode-ray tubes. BROADWAY, L. F. April 4, 1939, No. 10434. [Class 39 (i)] It is stated that in a cathode ray tube with magnetic focusing distortion is produced if ions formed in the tube are concentrated into a beam by the magnetic coil. To prevent this the coil is placed at such a position that the ions have a considerable velocity in those parts of the tube where the beam is strongest. It is stated that this effect is produced if the distance of the median plane of the focusing-coil 2 from the cathode 4 is less than 1.5 times the effective diameter of the anode 10. The anode may also be divided into two portions 10, 11 separated by a ring of clear glass 12, the potential of the portion 11, which is situated beyond the coil 2, being somewhat greater than that of the portion 10.
