[Class 135] A valve device particularly adapted for use' in connection with the steam heating apparatus in railway and other vehicles comprises a reciprocating or rotary slide valve member actuated by a longitudinally movable rod or member fitted with a bellows packing device to prevent leakage to the outside of the casing. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the valve operating member 6 has at one end a tail 7 slidable in a socket and at the other end slidably engages a ferrule 4 clamped to the end of the casing by a nut 5. The packing bellows 3 is attached to the ferrule 4 and the member 6. The valve member, which slides on a plane seat about the outlet passage has a tubular boss 13 slidable in the member 6, and is held to its seat by a spring housed in this boss and a similar boss 18 on an abutment slidably engaging a removable cover. The member 6 has a lost-motion connection with an external operating rod 9 said lost-motion comprising a collar 11 as the rod 9 working between the bottom of a recess in the member 6 and a collar 12 secured thereto. In the form shown in Fig. 3 the valve member 25 is slidably mounted in a pin carried by a lever formed with a boss 26 mounted on a pivot 27 and having arms pinned to a reciprocating rod 32 fitted with a packing bellows 3. The rod 32 is pinned to a bracket 34 slidably mounted between spaced abutments on an external operating rod guided in an extension of the casing. In a modification of this form the bracket is secured to a tube slidable in lugs on the casing between spaced abutments on the operating rod. In another form the operating rod has a slidable engagement with an eccentric pin on a crank disc the valve member being slidably mounted on a second pin.
