Abstract

743,171. Valves. ZIMMERMANN & JANSEN GES. Feb. 22, 1951 [Feb. 27, 1950], No. 4277/51. Class 135. A gate valve for controlling gas flow through large diameter pipes comprises a valve plate 4, Fig. 1, reciprocable between a seat member 1 secured to the pipe and a seat member 2 slidably supported on a tube 5 connected to the valve casing 6 and movable to and from the plate 4. On axial movement of a rod 18, a lever 17 connected to one of six or more levers 15 pivotally connected to push-rods 16 and mounting eccentrics 14a formed on studs 14 simultaneously operates thrust arms 13 to move the seat member 2. The rod 18 may be operated by a piston in a cylinder 19 supplied with pressure liquid or by mechanical, electrical or manual means. When operated mechanically or electrically, worm gearing 24, 25, Fig. 4, rotates a slotted tube 23 and a nut 21 having lugs engaging the slots, the nut coacting with a screw-threaded extension 20 of the rod 18. When operated manually a hand wheel on the end of the extension 20 rotates the extension which as before engages the nut 21. The nut in this case does not rotate but moves axially to either end of the slots and thence moves the rod 18. A resilient U-shaped member 7 having flanges 8, 9 connected to the valve casing and the movable seat respectively cooperates with the tube 5 to seal the pipe against leakage.
