Abstract
525,863. Drilling-machines. INDEPENDENT PNEUMATIC TOOL CO. March 2, 1939, No. 6853. Convention date, March 30, 1938. [Class 83 (iii)] In a portable motor-driven hand tool for drilling, screw-driving, reaming &c., the motor casing is open at the rear end and carries a bearing for the motor beyond the open end, the latter being closed by a cover having a handle projecting therefrom from a point located forward of the motor bearing. The motor casing 1 is open at the rear end and is formed integrally with a bridge member 3 carrying the rear bearing 10 for the motor spindle. The brush gear 15, 16 co-operating with the commutator 12 is also carried by the casing, and the whole is enclosed by a cover 20 formed integrally with a D-handle 18, 19 projecting from the casing 1 from a point a forward of the bearing 10. Projections 26 on the cover engage recesses 27 in the casing and the cover is secured by screws 21, 30 entering bosses 22, 31 in the bridge 3 and casing 1 respectively. Cooling air for the motor enters the casing by holes 24 in the cover and is expelled through holes 25 at the front end of the casing. The front bearing of the motor, which is of the distributed winding type, is carried by a plate 6 on a gear casing 2 attached to the casing 1 by bolts &c. 7, and the transverse handle 34 is cast integrally with the casing 1 and has a removable cover 33 for giving access to the switch.
