Abstract

1,143,677. Sawing. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 13 May, 1966 [25 June, 1965], No. 21307/66. Heading B5L. [Also in Division B3] A portable electrically operated tool comprises a power unit 10, Fig. 4, and an interchangeable tool unit 12 which may be a drilling unit having a drill chuck 14, or which may be a sander 16, Fig. 8, or which may be a sabre saw, the units 10 and 12 having means for accurate alignment. Unit 10 has a split casing 18a, 18b, Fig. 5, which houses an electric motor 28, Fig. 4, located in casing part 18a, by spherical bearings 34, 36, and clamped therein by straps 38, 40. The motor shaft 32 has a fan 41, and a pinion 78 thereon, which pinion meshes with the pinion 62 of unit 12. The two units 10, 12 are accurately aligned by a bore 80, Fig. 5, in the end plate 58 of unit 12, which snugly receives a hub 37 of bearing 36, and secured by clearance bolts 82, Fig. 4. A screwed hole 99 is provided in casing 18 for receiving a handle.
