Abstract

A power tool comprises a power unit with accessories which perform various functions. The functions performed are sawing, grinding, routing, drilling and sanding. The power unit has output shafts at the end and at the side which are used as appropriate for the individual accessories and a multi-speed switch selects the appropriate speed. Handles are attached as necessary and these have electrical contacts to connect an integral switch. The power unit is housed in a smooth curved light weight casing.

Description

Five functional power tool.

The product that I have designed is a power tool in principle, but it is like no other existing power tool on the market as it appeals to a wider market. The Orca has firstly five different functions in one which are I. sawing, 2.grinding 3.routing 4.drilling and 5. sanding. All these functions can be used on the main unit ' orca ' with seperate components for each function. This is a great step forward for power tools because instead of buying these tools seperately which would cost five times as much youcan buy the one product that does five things at the price of one product.Not only is it a technological breakthrough, but it is also an aesthetic breakthrough as it looks very organic with its streamlined ventilation curves and overall curved body, this alone would open up the market as it would appeal more people.It is also approximately a third of the size of a Black and decker portable power drill which adds to the appeal as it is easy to carry around and easy to use as it is also lighter than the average tool. The Orca is also a different colour from existing power tools, it is not matt black or green, it's official colour is hawaiin gemini blue gloss, although in production different colours can be used I still would like to keep it a noticeable colour to differentiate it from other power tools, this type of colour scheme makes the product seem more appealing to the younger generation and more futuristic. Although with all these changes I still wanted to know that this was a power tool. And as most power tools have brightly coloured switches like orange or red, I tried to keep it related in that way as the Orca has an orange switch.

Electronic control speed device This device is what is used to change the different functions which has been mentioned earlier.

So as the Orca has 5 different function this requires five different speeds. So the speed control device has five speed settings. So when you use the switch,the electronic device will step down or up the RPM of the motor depending on what function is used.

Once you have chosen a function,you then chse what function to use and attatch the apropriate accessories to the chosen shaft outletAs the motor spins the metal rod attatched would also spin and its outlet would be the front shaftThe metal rod would be threaded from the top and a gear would run from that,thus spinning.The metal rod would be attatched to that gear and it's outlet would be the side shaft.

Handle Stage i push handle with male twistlock into female part of mechanism.

Stage 2 Twist handle 90 degrees until you here a click.The click means that the handle is locked in place.The rubber rim around the handles will make them flush with the Orca,once they are in place,this is to prevent dirt from clogging up the connections.

Once it has clicked in correctly the handle contacts will touch the contacts in the Orca which will make a connection and therefore a circuiL And you would then be able to use the switch on the handle.

Claims

1. A five functional power tool comprising of the main unit, a body organically shaped,

and it is also small and light weight. The main unit is also provided with other accessories to help it fulfill its five functional uses. The accessories can be seen on Fig 6.

2. A five functional power tool as claimed in claim 1 where a handle can be slotted on the right hand side of the main unit, using the mechanism in Fig 9. and a saw blade and guard mounted on the side shaft on the left-hand side of the main unit. This function can be seen oliFig 1.

3. A five functional power tool as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, can also have a sawblade replaced by a grinding tool and guard, which would become function 2 as seen in Fig 2.

4. A five functional power tool as claimed in claim 2 or claim 3 where a sanding disc can also be attatched on the side shaft, which is function 5 and can be seen in Fig 5.

5. A five functional power tool as claimed in claim 2, claim 3 and claim 4, have the tools which use the side shaft, which is shown and explained in Fig 8.

6. A five functional power tool as claimed in claim 1 also uses the front shaft as seen in Fig 8 to attatch other tools such as a drill bit. Two handles are slotted at the bottom of the main unit using the mechanism in Fig 9, and this is the fourth function as seen in Fig 4.

7. A five functional power tool as claimed in claim lalso uses a top half and a bottom half stand as seen in Fig 3. These are the accessories needed to use function 3.

8. A five functional power tool as claimed in claim works as described in Fig 7 and the main unit's various views can be seen with reference to sheets 1 - 6 of the accompanying drawings.
