Abstract
525,420. Generating combustion products under pressure. STIPA, L. Feb. 20, 1939. No. 5644. Convention date, Feb. 23, 1938. [Class 51 (i)] [Also in Group XXXIII] Jet propulsion apparatus, particularly for aircraft, comprises, pairs of parallel cylinders 1, open at both ends and arranged symmetrically about an axis. A windmill 2 has blades which on rotation blank the ends of the cylinders at the explosion period, and the unblanked cylinders are scavenged by passage of air therethrough. A second windmill 7 out of phase with 2 may be provided to'blank the other ends of the cylinders to provide a slight compression pressure. Fuel spray nozzles 4 and sparking plugs 5 are synchronously controlled. Initial starting up of the aircraft is by an ordinary screw propeller driven by an internal combustion engine. The power may be raised by controlling the number of fuel jets in action. The cylinders may be of cylindrical, truncated cone, or Venturi form.
