Abstract
525,404. Superheterodyne circuits. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., SIMPSON, A. I. F., and STENNING, L. C. Jan. 20, 1939, Nos. 2032 and 7653. [Class 40 (v)] A short wave superheterodyne receiver in which the local oscillations are obtained through a chain of frequency multipliers, has the last doubler replaced by a second frequency changer so that the required I.F. signal is obtained by a double subtraction from the incoming signal. This arrangement has the advantage that a frequency changer produces slight amplification whereas a frequency doubler does not. The last doubler may feed its output directly to both frequency changers, but as shown in the Fig. the local oscillations applied to the second frequency changer are derived by filtering the output from the first changer. The last doubler may be omitted if the local oscillations applied to the second changer are derived by filtering out from the output of the first the third harmonic of the local oscillations supplied thereto.
