[Class 64 (i)] Heat' is transferred from combustion &c. gases passing upwards through a column A to air passing upwards through a column B by granulated metal passing downwards through said columns from a hopper H to a reservoir R. The metal is conveyed from the reservoir to the hopper by an elevator N. The columns are lined with refractory material and filled with Rashig rings &c. of metal or clay.
