Abstract

524,606. Actuating controllers. WEST & CO., Ltd., A., and PADDOCK, W. J. Feb. 2, 1939, No. 3516. [Class 38 (iii)] A drum controller 1 is moved in its accelerating direction by means of a pneumatic motor 3 having a piston 5 operating through a rack 7 and pinion 8. Control of fluid pressure to the motor 3 is effected by a valve 10 controlled by contacts 14, 15, carried respectively by a handle 2 and the controller 1, the valve being operated to stop the motor 3 when the controller 1 has followed movement of the handle 2. Movement in the reverse direction to braking-positions through the neutral position shown is effected by the engagement of a lug 19 on the handle 2 with a lug 20 on the control drum. The movement of the drum 1 in the accelerating direction is controlled by a piston 21 forcing liquid through a valve 26 which is closed to arrest motion upon overload conditions by the energization of a coil 30. Liquid returns to the cylinder 22 freely through a valve 31 and the connection between the rack 7 and the piston 21 permits movement of the controller to its braking positions after the piston has returned to its end position under fhe influence of a spring 32.
