Abstract
486,454. Preventing overwinding. BELL, W. T., and PERRY, F. B. Dec. 9, 1936, No. 33818. [Class 78 (v)] In steam actuated winding mechanism for colliery plant a cam disc 4, provided with cams 4a, 4b and driven by the engine, rocks a pivoted member 6 which is connected to an arm 11 on the reversing shaft 12 of the engine by means including springs 13, the arrangement being such that when the cage approaches the end of a wind, the lever 17 for actuating the shaft 12 is returned to neutral position and is prevented from movement, except for a limited amount, in a direction to cause further travel of the cage in the same direction. The shaft 5, to which the member 6 is keyed, carries an arm 7 having a block 8 pivoted in its free end. A rod 10 passes through the block 8 and is connected to the arm 11 on the shaft 12. The springs 13 are placed between stops 10b on the rod and the block. When the cage approaches the end of a wind, the cam 4b presses down the roller 6b, and the arm 7 is turned to move the arm 11 from position A to position B, in which position steam is cut off. If sufficient pressure is exerted on the lever 17 to overcome the springs 13, the arm 11 can be moved sufficiently to admit a little steam to the engine for completing the wind, or easing the cage slightly at the commencement of a new wind.
