Abstract

550,824. Hydraulic apparatus. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and STRETTON, A. T. Dec. 1, 1941, No. 15448. [Class 69 (ii)] An electro-hydraulic operating mechanism in which a hydraulic piston 2 is used to impart a straight line motion at constant pressure to a piece of mechanism comprises a pump 7 driven by an electric motor 6 which is automatically de-energized at the end of each complete movement of the piston in either direction. In the position shown the motor is energized through contacts 15, 16, a relay switch 25 and a switch 24 set in full line position. A rotary valve 8 connects the pump pressure to the lower end of cylinder 1 and the piston 2 and its rod 3 are raised until a projection 11 on a rod 10 which moves with the rod 2 rotates the valve 8 to reverse the liquid flow by acting on an arm 9, and at the same time a link 17 connected to contact 16 breaks the motor circuit and de-energizes relay 25. The contact 16 falls on to contact 14 and the motor can now be energized to cause a return movement of the piston by moving the switch 24 to the dotted line position. The position occupied by the arm of switch 24 gives an indication of the position of the plunger 2 when at rest within the cylinder.
