Abstract

523,931. Two-part couplings. BALBI. C. M. R. Jan. 17, 1939, No. 1661. [Class 38 (i)] An adapter for use with a dry battery 1 consists of a casing 5 carrying a pair of contacts 12, 13 so arranged that when the casing is applied to the battery in one position the contacts engage the battery terminals 2, 3 and when the casing is reversed on the battery the contacts engage the terminals 3, 4, the pairs of terminals tapping off different voltages. The contacts 12, 13 consist of U-shaped strips straddling a mounting plate 10 secured to bosses 9 in the casing by rivets 11. Alternative sockets 15, 15a on one of the strips co-operate with a socket 14 on the other to receive plug members of different pitches. A window 19 in the casing coincides with a marking on the battery to indicate which position the casing occupies. The battery may be arranged to give a 4¢ volts supply between the terminals 2, 3 with the casing applied in the first position, and when the voltage deteriorates the casing is reversed to the second position, an additional cell being included between the terminals 3, 4.
