Abstract

962,341. Batteries. SONOTONE CORPORATION. Sept. 26, 1960 [Sept. 30, 1959(2)], No. 33003/60. Heading H1B. A re-chargeable battery with in-built charging means, and having a charging plug for connection to the mains has a movable end wall that retracts to expose the charging plug or shields the pins when the battery is in use. The battery contains cells 21 and the complete casing 20 is made to a standard battery size as a direct replacement for an ordinary torch battery. A positive terminal 72 and a negative 26 follow usual positive but when the end wall 45 is retracted pins 51, 52 are exposed for plugging into the mains. A transformer 60 and rectifier 64 are provided. In an embodiment (not shown) the transformer is replaced by a resistor and the end wall operates a switch to disconnect the battery output terminals from the supply when it is being charged.
