Abstract
523,722. Pneumatic conveyers ; shoots. CASSIERE, A. T. Jan. 13, 1939, No. 1149. [Class 78 (i)] A device for conveying cement or other material from a hopper 2 comprises a spherical rotary member 4 arranged in a housing 1 at the base of the hopper and having elongated peripheral pockets 6. The rotary member projects into an air conduit 7 and is arranged with its axis 5 parallel thereto so that the air pushes the material out of each pocket in turn. The upward pressure of the air on the rotary member urges the latter upwardly into contact with the side walls of the housing 1 so as to prevent air losses. Excessive upward pressure on the rotary member may be balanced by admitting pressure to a cylinder 39, Fig. 3, above a piston 40 which is connected 'by a yoke 41, 42 to the shaft of the rotary member. The pressure exerted by the balancing device may be sufficient to draw the rotary member downward into contact with the bottom of the casing and thereby avoid air losses at this point instead of at the intake.
