Abstract

523,648. Valve generating circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., and RAMSAY, J. F. Jan 10, 1939, No. 23786. Divided out of 513,679. [Class 40 (v)] A remotely-tunable oscillator, suitable for control of a superheterodyne receiver, comprises a valve 1 with an oscillationmaintaining and frequency-determining circuit consisting of a length of high-frequency cable connected between the anode and control grid. A variable reactance TL is inserted in series at its midpoint, and the two halves of the cable run in parallel from the valve to the remote variablereactance tuning-device. If the reactance TL is an inductance, the frequency range extends from a low value to that value at which the total cable resonates at a half wavelength when TL is zero. If the reactance is a condenser, the frequency extends from this "halfwave" frequency when the condenser is large, to practically twice this value. If the variable reactance is a condenser in series with a loading coil, the frequency range extends from a little above zero to twice the "half-wave" frequency. Several valves in cascade may be employed, the cable extending from the output of one valve to the input of a preceding valve. Feedback may be reduced by tapping down the anode or grid connections to the cable. Higherorder modes of oscillation may be obtained as described in Specification 493,862. Specification 513,679 also is referred to.
