Abstract

607,798. Automatic control systems. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. Feb. 5, 1946, No. 3573. Convention date, Feb. 8, 1945. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XL (c)] Frequency.-The frequency of a valve oscillator is maintained constant by applying a correcting voltage derived from a frequency discriminator to the grid of a discharge tube operating as a variable impedance in the grid circuit of the oscillator. The valve 1 produces oscillations by virtue of the coupling between the tuned anode circuit 2 and the coil 3 in the grid circuit. The grid leak path comprises a choke coil 7, a resistance 6 and a triode tube 5, a byepass condenser 9 shunting the elements 5, 6. Correcting voltage is applied to the terminals 10 across a resistance 8 to vary the flow of grid current in the valve. The grid condenser 4 has a value much lower than normal, and this condenser together with the internal gridcathode resistance of the valve 1 constitute a network giving a phase-shift which is variable under the control of the correcting voltage, causing a corresponding variation of the wave frequency. The system may be used for keeping the wave frequency constant when keying telegraph transmitters.
