Abstract
523,313. Band-clips. ROBINSON, L. Dec. 30, 1938, No. 37891. [Class 44] In a loose clip of the kind described in Specifications 203,262 and 293,279, [both in Class 44], having a worm mounted in a housing secured to one end of the band and adapted to engage teeth on the other end of the band, the housing, which may be of bent sheet metal, is secured to the band by welding. As shown, the housing 3 is formed by bending to inverted U or V form the edges being secured by seam welding at A to the edges of the band end 1a. The edges are curved as shown to conform to the general curvature of the pipe 2. The housing shown is fitted with triangular end-caps 5 in which the worm 4 is mounted, end play being prevented by the slotted worm-head 7 and a split ring 6. The worm is kept up to the teeth 16 by a bearing block or annular collar 8 at one end fitting within the housing and by an enlargement of the worm, not shown, at the other end. Parts 5, 8 may be cast integral. Caps 5 are welded in place. In a modification, the edges of the housing are extended to meet and are secured by welding above or below the end 1a.
