[Class 44] The bolt 9 of a cylindrical door latch is guided by a stationary guide 5 (the bolt being forked in the form shown), and a member 23 is arranged between the guide 5 and the rear end of the bolt so as to withdraw the bolt when pressed down by an arm 14 on the spindle. In the form shown, the member 23 is attached to the end of the bolt by pins 24 engaging notches in lugs on the bolt, and these lugs are duplicated so that the bolt can be inverted for use with a door of the opposite hand. The member 23 may alternatively be permanently pivoted to the bolt, or may be replaced by several balls lying between the guide 5 and a lug at the rear end of the bolt. The guide 5 and half-bearings for the spindle are formed on semi-cylindrical members inserted into the casing 1 and secured by a spring ring.
