Abstract
523,233. Turning-gear. LANGE, A., and LERP, E. Dec. 29, 1938, No. 37730. [Class 7 (v)] In a starting-device for the engines of tree-felling devices, in which a pulling element such as a chain 8 is secured to a freely rotatable starting disc 6 permanently connected by a return spring 7 to the starter housing 5, the disc 6 is connected to a self-winding helical spring 9 which at its other end is connected to a friction ring 10 in yieldable frictional connection with the housing 5. As shown, the chain 8 is guided between wheels 26 and terminates in a handle 24 having a conical part 25 normally closing an opening 23 in the casing 5, which is bolted to the engine housing 1. The friction ring 10 is loosely guided in the housing 5 and is provided externally with brake blocks 20 pressed by springs against the housing. The brake blocks are guided by collars 21 of the ring 10 and by screws 22. On pulling the chain 8 the spring 9 grips the drum 3 and transmits drive to the engine shaft, the ring 10 also rotating and the brake blocks 20 slipping over the casing 5. In the case of a backward turn of the engine shaft, the spring 9 unwinds from and releases the drum 3 and comes into engagement with the ring 10, which is held by the brake blocks.
