Abstract
522,204. Waterproofing. DEUTSCHE HYDRIEHWERKE AKT.-GES. Dec.-2, 1938, No. 35211. Convention date, Dec. 4, 1937. [Class 140] [Also in Group IV] Textiles such as wool, cotton, silk, rayon staple fibre and artificial silk, paper, cellulose foils, leather and furs are rendered water-repellent by treatment with a ketene containing at least 6 carbon atoms in the molecule and then heating for example at a temperature of 110-120‹C. The ketenes may be made by the process of Specification 522,033, [Group IV], and include butyl-, capryl-, lauryl-, and cetylketene, and ketenes derived from cocoanut oil fatty acids; montanic acid, naphthenic acids, nuclear-alkylated' aryl fatty acids, polybasic acids such as adipic acid, sebacic acid and cyclohexane-diacetic acid. They may contain hetero atoms, e.g., oxygen and sulphur. The ketenes are applied in solution in organic solvents, e.g., benzine, carbon disulphide and carbon tetrachloride.
