Description
Method for sterilizing organic material, especially surgical suture material. In a further development of the patent 873 2-98 it was found that organic material, especially surgical suture material, can also be sterilized when the starting material, e.g. B. Katgut or packs made from it, placed in a solution of halogenated hydrocarbons with relatively easy to be -, ve-Ii (# h # cn or hydrolyzable halogen atoms and a water-miscible solvent, such as ethyl alcohol, methyl ethyl ketone, and in this liquid The initial mixture is treated at temperatures above about 40 ', preferably from about 50 to 6o1. The liquid mixture expediently has a low water content. As the tests have shown, a water content of about 3 to 6% is expedient. A water content of, for example, 15% is already disadvantageous for the quality of the threads.
Nach :26stündiger Behandlung zeigten die aeroben und unaeroben Bakterienkontrollen keinerlei Wachstum.B eis p ive 1 1 In a mixture of 15 parts by weight of benzyl chloride and 85 parts by weight of ethyl alcohol, 95%, raw katgut threads, the individual parts of which were soaked in a dense emulsion of spores of a Bac. mesentericus strain, in the thermostat at 551 Heated for 6 or 24 hours. The raw katgut threads, which were removed from the solution after 6 hours of exposure under aseptic conditions and transferred to broth and aerobically coated, showed bacterial growth, while the raw katgut threads, which were treated for 24 hours, showed neither macroscopic (fh nor microscopic growth after 14 days of incubation) could be B ice p y 1 2 Rohdarmteile were softened. and without besonder-- pretreatment in a mixture of 15 parts of isopropyl iodide and placed 85 parts of ethyl alcohol (94 '/ oig) and genaii treated as i in the example of:. 26stündiger treatment showed the aerobic and unaerobic bacterial controls do not show any growth.
In addition to the substances mentioned in the examples, other halogenated hydrocarbons are also suitable, namely those with aromatic substituents which have a mobile, i.e. H. Carry an easily hydrolyzable halogen atom, these are p-methoxybenzyl chloride, tolychloride, isobutyl iodide, tertiary, lyl chloride, etc. They are expediently used in the water-miscible solvent in a 5- to 25 % solution. The exposure time is generally about 24 to 48 hours. Treatment in a de-ni liquid mixture is simple and reliable. The temperature can easily be kept at the certain level. The killing of the germs is complete without the collagen substance of the catgut being impaired.
