Abstract

Textile materials, e.g. cotton, wool or artificial silk fibres, spun, woven or otherwise fabricated, or mixed fabrics are rendered water-repelling by treatment with compounds corresponding to the formula <FORM:0461670/IV/1> or <FORM:0461670/IV/2> in which the radicles R1 and R2 are organic radicles of which at least one is an aliphatic radicle containing at least 6 carbon atoms and in which R may be hydrogen or any organic radicle. Suitable compounds are carbonates of hexyl - ethyl -, dioctodecyl -, octodecylethyl -, dodecyl-, cetyl-, oleyl-, octodecane-diol- ; and urethanes of octodecyl-ethyl-, octodecyl-, dioctodecyl-, or octodecyl-hydroxyethyl-. Preferred carbonates or urethanes are those containing at lease one aliphatic radicle corresponding to the fatty acids contained in natural fatty oils, fats or waxes. Impregnation may be effected in aqueous baths which may contain solvents such as benzine or dispersing agents such as soap or triethanolamine stearate, or in solvents such as carbon tetrachloride. The impregnated materials are preferably heated to temperatures between 50 and 100 DEG C. The materials may be dyed before treatment.
