Abstract

522,114. Centrifugal separators. CORINTH, Ltd. Dec. 5, 1938, No. 35405. Convention date, Jan. 18. [Class 23] Gas or vapour is dried centrifugally during its passage through a number of cyclone separators arranged in series ; one of these separators has a receptacle containing liquid which is set in rotation by the whirling gas or vapour, and the action in this separator is preceded by a separating action in a cyclone separator without a liquid-containing receptacle. In the form shown two separators are employed, the separator 13 with its receptacle 14 for liquid being arranged inside the first separator 10 which has near its base a disc 24 supported on a flat plate 23. The gas or vapour is admitted to the separator 10 by the tangential entry 11; as it whirls round some of the suspended particles are thrown to the wall and drop through the gap between the plate 24 and the wall. The gas stream passes to the second separator 13 through the scroll-like passages 16, and the tray 14 fills with liquid which is rotated by the gas'stream. A cylindrical wall 18 is arranged at the'top of the separator, and the axial outlet 19 for the clean gas projects for some. distance inside this wall. The flow of the separated particles down the sloping walls 20, 21 at the bottom of the separators is aided by the diminution of the gas rotation by the transverse plates 22, 23 beneath the tray 14 and the plate 24 respectively. The separators may be arranged side-by-side instead of one being arranged inside the other. Where the separators are built into boiler the outlet 12 may have an extension pipe closed at its lower end and provided with lateral discharge openings. Suitable ratios for the dimensions of parts are indicated.
