[Class 42 (i)] [Also in Group XXIX] In a fabric tentering machine, the chain guides are adjusted by hydraulic means which is controlled electrically, pneumatically or hydraulically by feelers 51 in contact with the edges of the fabric &c. 1a. The leading ends 2 of the chain guides are adjusted by separate hydraulic rams 13 the ends of each of which are connected to the chambers 29, 31 of a valve 21. One of these chambers is connected to the pressure inlet 26 and the other to the outlet 27 when the spring loaded piston valve 23 moves from its central position owing to the air pressure in the bellows 34 being reduced or increased by the movement' of the feeler 51. The feeler valve is connected with a valve 44a in front of an air nozzle 44 carried by a bellows 48. The nozzle 44 is connected to the air supply 36 by pipes 43, 40 which are also connected to a bellows 45 controlling an air leak 45a in the air duct 37a which is connected directly to the bellows 34 and through a throttle valve 39 with the air supply 36. The bellows 48 is connected by a pipe 47 with the air duct 37a. If the fabric 1a moves the feeler 51 to close the nozzle 44, 'the pressure in the bellows 45 rises, the leak 45a is closed and the pressure in the duct 37a and the bellows 34 rises, thus effecting adjustment of the chain guides 2. The rise in pressure in the duct 37a and also in the bellows 48 moves the nozzle 44 away from the valve 44a and prevents hunting. Movement of the feeler 51 in the other direction causes a reduction of air pressure in the bellows 34 with corresponding adjustment of the chain guides 2. If the change of pressure due to the valve 44a and nozzle 44 is sufficient, the bellows 45 and leak 45a may be dispensed with. The whole feeler mechanism can be adjusted by means of a hand screw 57. Oil may be used instead of air, or the. feelers 51 may act through solenoids &c.
