Abstract

854,311. Valves. GLENFIELD & KENNEDY Ltd. Feb. 26, 1957 [Nov. 30, 1955], No. 34260/55. Class 135. In a sluice valve including a valve body 1, and a valve member which is in two parts, one forming a cylinder 3 and the other forming a piston 4, a pipe 12A leads pressure fluid which is supplied, e.g. from an exterior source, via the interior of the operating spindle 7A to the cylinder for forcing the sealing face of each part 3, 4 against its seating face in the body when the valve is in any operative position. The supply and exhaust of pressure fluid from the cylinder is controlled by an exterior valve, and before operating the sluice valve, which may be by manual hydraulic or electrical means, the pressure is exhausted to relieve the seating force so that the valve member can slide easily in its guides. The sealing faces and their corresponding seats may be parallel or inclined relative to one another.
