[Class 143] Vibration, preventing.-In a weighing mechanism having a pivoted weigh beam, vibration is damped by one or more permanent magnets acting upon a conductor loop arranged to make a turning movement in the magnetic field in response to movement of the weigh beam. As shown, the pole pieces 15 of permanent magnets 14 are arranged to embrace the opposite ends 21 of a conductor loop constituting part of a rectangular weigh beam 1 mounted on a fulcrum 2. The poles are arranged so that the currents induced in the loop are in the same direction. The magnets may be made from an aluminiumnickel-iron alloy; and the strength of the magnetic field may be adjusted,' for example, by varying the air gap or by tilting the magnets on their pole pieces.
