Abstract
521,228. Plate heat-exchangers. AHLBORN AKT.-GES, E. Nov. 14, 1938, Nos. 33040 and 33041. Convention dates, Dec. 31, 1937, and Oct. 28, 1938. [Class 64 (iii)] A plate heat-exchanger is built up of alternate flat and ribbed composite plates, the latter plates each consisting of metal sheets 1, 2 having ribs 3, 4 .pressed therein to form zig-zag flow channels on either side of the plate and welded &c. together along their contacting surfaces. The sheet 2 is formed with apertures 11 along the flow channels so that the fluids between which heat is to be exchanged are separated by only.a single thickness of metal. Marginal channels 7 for rubber packing are welded to opposite sides of the composite plates. In a modification the metal sheets are formed with apertures 12, 13, Fig. 2, and marginal packing grooves. The edges of the sheets may, however, be formed to accommodate a packing frame 24, Fig. 3. In another arrangement, the composite plate is provided with channel strips 110, Fig. 10, and packing channels 109. Fig. 11 shows another modification in which the plate is formed of overlapping strips 113, 114, Fig. 11.
