Abstract

520,850. Travelling grates. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd., and SUCKLING, L. J. Nov. 1, 1938, No. 31625. [Class 51 (i)] In a travelling-grate stoker comprising rows of drop-link grate bars 3 pivotally mounted on bulb-bars 17 off-set from the links of carrier chains 1, adjacent rows of grate bars are intermeshed and remain intermeshed even when undergoing relative rotational and translational movement at the return bends of the grate. Free ends of the drop-links rest on adjacent bulb-bars. At the return rear bend of the grate are arranged a curved plate 19 to limit the rotation of the drop-links under gravity and keep them in mesh and a plate 20 over which they pass and form an air seal.
