Abstract
519,466. Electromagnets. IGRANIC ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Oct. 17, 1938, No. 30001. Convention date, Oct. 22, 1937. [Class 35] A lifting magnet comprises a magnet frame 1 having concentric inner and outer pole projections 2 and 3, an annular coil unit 4 mounted in the space between said pole projections, an annular seating disc 8 of sheet metal independently connected to the pole projections and forming, with the magnet frame, an enclosure for the coil unit, and a rigid annular shield 11 covering the disc and secured to the pole projection. In the form shown the coil unit 4 comprises a core member 5 fitting over the projection 2, an annular plate 6 and a plurality of windings 7 of strap material. The disc 8 has two flanges 14, 15 fitting against the pole projection 2 and the shoulder 17 of the projection 3 respectively. Shoulders 16, 18 are bored on the projections 2, 3 level with the ends of the flanges 14. 15 and continuous welds 9, 10 formed over the abutting surfaces. The unit 4 and the disc 8, flexible at the marginal portions, are protected by the shield 11 cast with channels 22 of V cross-section, filled with compacted' material, such as concrete, giving good heat conduction. Bored and flanged pole shoes 12, 13 bolted to the magnet frame 1 clamp the disc 8 between the pole 3 and the shield 11 and between the core member 5 and the shield 11. The terminals and terminal elements are in pockets 30, 33 provided with caps 34, 35. The ends of the shield 11 are spaced radially from the flanges 14, 15 and the points of connection between the flanges and the magnet frame.
