C''res and yokes; armatures and field magnets, cooling; casings.-A stator for a dynamo-electric machine comprises an annular structure supporting the laminations, a longitudinally parted cover spaced from the annular structure and foot members for supporting the annular structure and the cover. In the example shown, the stator of a turbo-generator is in four parts in order to facilitate transport viz, an annular structure 10, a cover 30 in two parts bolted or welded together at 31, and two foot members 20 each comprising a number of spaced plates 21 secured to a base plate 22 and a flange plate 23. The structure 10 comprises a number of annular plates 11 connected by longitudinal tie bars 12. The bars on the inner periphery engage dovetailed notches in the laminations 13, and their ends 15 are threaded so that a clamping cover 16 can be secured thereto by nuts 15<a>. The plates 11 are formed with bolt holes 17 which register with similar holes 21<a> in the plates 21 when the stator is assembled. Each part of the cover 30 is formed with a flange 35 which can be bolted to the plates 23 on the foot members. Webs 37 are provided on the cover and bear on the annular plates 11, the ventilating passages 40 so formed preferably being interconnected as described in Specification 104,250. To prevent a flow of air between the plates 21 a closure plate 24 mav be provided. Cooling air is preferably supplied under pressure through one of the end shields.
