[Class 2 (iii)] - Substantial disazo dyestuffs capable of forming copper complex compounds are made by coupling two molecular proportions of a diazotized 2-aminophenol-sulphonic acid with one molecular proportion of an arylide of 2- naphthol-6-carboxylic acid, which has a substantive character with respect to cotton. Specified arylides are the condensation products obtained from two molecular proportions of 2- napnthol-6-carboxylic acid and one molecular proportion of a 4:41-diaminodiphenyl or a 4:4<1>- diaminodiphenylurea or from one molecular proportion of 2-naphthol-6-carboxylic acid and one molecular proportion of 2-amino-5-naphthol-7-sulphonic acid. The dyestuffs may be transformed into their copper compounds in substance or on the fibre. In examples, (1) 6-chloro-2-aminophenol-4-sulphonic acid (2 mols.) is diazotized and coupled with sodium bis-(2<11>-hydroxy-6<11>-naphthoyl)-4:4<1>-diaminodiphenyl-3:3<1>-dicarboxylate(1 mol.) ; the product when dyed on cotton and after-treated with copper sulphate, gives fast red tints, (2) 2- aminophenol-4-sulphonic acid (2 mols.) is diazotized and coupled with 2-(2<1>-hydroxy-6<1> naphthoyl)-amino-5-naphthol-7-sulphonic acid (1 mol.), and the product is converted into the copper compound by treating with copper sulphate, and (3) 2-aminophenbl-4-sulphonic acid sulphate, and (3) 2-aminophenol-4-sulphonic acid (2 mols.) is diazotized and coupled with bis (2<11>- hydroxy-6<11>naphthoyl )-4:4<1>-diamino-3:3<1>- dimethoxydiphenyl; the product, when dyed on cotton and after-treated with copper sulphate yields red tints.
