Abstract

The invention comprises dyestuffs which as free acids are of formula <FORM:0760710/IV(b)/1> where X is a direct link or -NHCOO -or -NHCOO - linked via -NHCO- to the stilbene radical and A is a residue of a 1- (51 or 61-indazyl)-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone which is linked to azo group via the 4-position of the pyrazolone ring. They are made by tetrazotizing 4:41- diaminostilbene-2:21-disulphonic acid or its bis-m- or p-aminobenzoyl derivatives and coupling the tetrazo derivatives thus formed with 2 molecular proportions of 1-(51 or 61-indazyl 3-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone. The dyestuffs dye cellulosic fibres e.g. cotton and viscose, in orange to scarlet shades, and the dyeings may be after-coppered. Examples are provided of the following dyestuffs 4:41-diaminostilbene-2:21-disulphonic acid or its bis-m or p-aminobenzoyl derivatives-->1-(61-indazyl)-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone (alkaline) and (2) 4:41-diamino-stilbene-2:21 disulphonic acid and its bis-m-aminobenzoyl derivative--> 1-(51-indazyl) - 3 - methyl-5-pyrazolone (alkaline) and their use in dyeing cellulose fibres by an after-coppering process. In the Provisional Specification A is a residue such that HA is a 1-(51 - or 61-indazyl)-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone. Specification 753,573 [Group IV (b)] is referred to.
