Abstract

Fibres composed of cellulose esters or ethers, superpolyamides, superpolyurethanes or polyvinyl resins are dyed by applying a dyestuff having the general formula <FORM:0605325/IV (c)/1> (in which X is an alkyl or alkoxy group and Y is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl or alkoxy group), tetrazotizing the dyestuff on the fibre and developing with 2-oxy-3-naphthoic acid. In examples: (1) acetate rayon is dyed with the dyestuff obtained by coupling diazotized 2-methyl-4-nitraniline with o-anisidine-methyl-omega-sulphonate of soda and reducing the product with sulphur and sodium sulphide, and the dye is tetrazotized on the fibre and coupled with 2-oxy-3-naphthoic acid; (2) the 2-methyl-4-nitraniline of (1) is replaced by 2-methoxy-4-nitraline; (3) the 2-methyl-4-nitraniline of (1) is replaced by paranitraniline; and (4) acetate rayon is dyed with the dyestuff obtained by coupling diazotized 2 - methyl - 4 - amino - acetanilide with metanisidine methyl-omega-sulphonate of soda and saponifying off first the function NHCH2SO3Na and then the acetylamino group, and dye is tetrazotized on the fibre and coupled with 2-oxy-3-naphthoic acid.
